Taylor Swift Launches Her Own Clothing Line

Taylor Swift is teaming up with L.E.I. to help design her own clothing line at Walmart. Taylor is said to inspire the clothing company’s dress line based on her own style. Taylor spoke to New York Magazine and said,

“I don’t look at it like I’m branching out as a designer. It’s not the Taylor Swift designer line or whatever.”

What are the dresses going to look like? According to Taylor,

“Sundresses are my favorite things to wear. In the summer, I automatically want to look bohemian.”

Check out some of the photos from her L.E.I. photo shoot below.

What’s Your Key Piece

I have finally given in and transitioned my clothes – good-bye shorts, hello turtlenecks and sweaters. I put up a good fight and waited until after vacation to make the transition. When the thermometer finally dropped to under 50 degrees I knew it was time.

I put away my summer clothes and decided to really think about the winter clothes I was going to put in my drawers. Did I really need to keep my favorite sweater from 8 years ago that I haven’t worn in 5 years? Thankfully my mother was visiting from Florida and was able to reason with me – out went the favorite sweater from 2000, 2001, 2002… you get the point. I realized while I was getting rid of enough of my favorites to fill a huge garbage bag, that every wardrobe needed a few key pieces.

Key pieces are the basis of your wardrobe and is often referred to as your “uniform”. The outfit that you wear a minimum of once per week (or in my case 2 -3 times). Those key pieces that will carry you through the times when you cannot figure out what you should wear. Those pieces that defy the fashion “trends” and match a wide range of clothing in your closet. I have included a sample of some of those “must have” pieces to add to your existing wardrobe. I recommend staying away from the latest “in” colors and staying with your basic black, brown or grey for your “uniform”. This way you won’t have to worry about matching. Of course this is only my opinion and may not be what you had in mind for your “uniform”. I do not work outside the home so I tend to lean toward a more casual look.

Do you agree? Are there 4 or 5 key pieces that are a must have and should be a part of every wardrobe??

Fit to Flatter!!

When I look in the mirror I am hyper-critical.  I NEVER like what I see!!  I recently received an email from Vera asking me to take a lood at the website ShabbyApple.  More specifically the “Fit to Flatter” part of their website.

The concept for “Fit to Flatter” really hit home with me and I am sure a lot of Vera’s readers as well.

Every woman wants to feel beautiful but not every woman looks like a supermodel.  Shabby Apple has developed a tool to help women of all shapes and sizes dress to accent their best assets. The “Fit-to-Flatter” portion of shabbyapple teaches women what type of body they have and then shows them exactly which dresses are a best fit for them as well as which cuts, fabrics and styles they should look for when creating a wardrobe.

There are 3 questions that they believe will help you determine your body shape.  Once you answer the questions a body type is provided.  Hourglass, Apple, Pear and Pencil are a few of the categories that your body shape can fit into.  They also give you some suggested items that “emphasize your assets”.  Check it out.  Do you agree with your “body type”??

Are You Going Gorgeously Green?

When I hear the term “Going Green”, the first thought that comes to mind is cleaning products.  I was quite surprised to learn that there are a number of beauty products out there that have gone green.  Not just in the packaging but the actual ingredients.  If a product states that they are a “Green” product this means that they are natural or organic.  In other words – NO CHEMICALS should be in this product.   Here are some great “Green” Products.
Hair:  Conventional hair color contains ammonia.  More than 50% of women suffer the side effects of ammonia – itching, burning and an irritated scalp.  A new product has popped up at the hair salons that is being praised by beauticians.  The product is Taylor Mackay Organic Color.  It is oil based, no discomfort to the person having their hair dyed and when it goes down the drain it doesn’t hurt the environment.

FaceAveda Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser.  This cleanser sloughs off dead skin cells without scratching or damaging the skin’s surface.   It also contains tiny, naturally-derived jojoba beads  and tourmaline, a beautiful pink gemstone found to possess strong energizing qualities.  When added to the cleanser, tourmaline enhances the effect of the other ingredients—delivering superior moisture, smoothness, radiance, and helping to reduce fine lines.

Clothing:  Organic Clothing is made with organic cottons and silks.  Grown without pesticides or chemicals the result is a super soft material.  They are a bit more expensive – but I’ve heard its worth it.    Levis has a new Eco line of jeans and khakis that are made of 100% organic cotton and canvas.  Check it out at .  Organic clothing is popping up all over – even Walmart is selling them.

Currently, there is minimal FDA regulations with regard to “Green” products so be sure to make sure that the product you are purchasing has been certified.  IT MUST HAVE A USDA SEAL (THIS MEANS THE PRODUCT IS AT LEAST 95% ORGANIC) OR AN OASIS SEAL (THIS MEANS THE PRODUCT IS AT LEAST 85% ORGANIC).

I consider myself a very good (or shall I say – great) shopper.  I can go into a department store and purchase a pocketbook, shirt, jeans, shoes, – you get the point – for the same or less than the price of a similar pocketbook, shirt, jeans or shoes from Target.  I often wonder how many people can tell the difference between an item purchased from Target and an item purchased from a higher end department store.

Can you tell the difference??  Check out these pocketbooks coming to Target on October 12th.  They are designed by Anya Hindmarch – who also sells pocketbooks ( with some similarities) on her own website.

Take a look.

Animal Prints – From Head to Toe!!

Animal prints are everywhere this season.  Hats, belts, tops, bags, bracelets – you name it and you can find it with an animal print.  Leopard, zebra and cheetah are just a few examples of the animal prints that have gained popularity more recently.  I would suggest wearing one piece at a time.   Putting them all together at the same time may be a bit much.  But pair an animal print sweater with a solid pair of pants and you have a great outfit!!  Check out some of the animal prints that are currently out there.  Are you going to be wearing any animal prints this season??

How to Get the Best Deals When Shopping Online

I absolutely love shopping online – from everything to my children’s Halloween costumes to all of my holiday shopping.  When I shop online I like to feel like I got a deal – a GOOD deal.  Below you will find some of my tips on how to ensure that you are getting the best deal possible when shopping online.

  • Shipping – Free Shipping is the best kind of shipping.  For the times that you have to pay for your shipping – try and keep it to the bare minimum.  Overstock has $2.95 shipping and Amazon often provides free shipping.  There is no point to shopping online if you are paying $9.95 for shipping.
  • Coupon CodesAlways look for a coupon code online.  There are hundreds of websites that provide coupon codes.  I usually do a google search and put in the name of the store and coupon code into the search.  For example – I put Kohls and coupon code (this is great when they are having their scratchoff sales and I only received a coupon for 15% off in the mail).   You’ll probably find several Kohl’s coupons.  Be sure to check that the expiration date is still valid and also make sure that you are getting the “best value” for your purchase.  If a code will get you $10 off of a $50 purchase but you are only spending $30 then you need to use a different code.
  • Join a Rewards Program – By joining an online rewards program they will put a percentage of your purchase into an account.  The percentage that is given depends on what store you are ordering from and what rewards program you are using.  A couple of the more popular websites with reward programs is Ebates and Fat Wallet.  You may think that earning 4% on a $30 ($1.20) purchase isn’t worth your time and effort but make a few of these purchases over time and it will add up rather quickly.  Especially during the holidays.

I have been trying to keep this website a secret but I can’t take it another second.  Don’t tell anyone else – the website is called  This website has high end fashion deals for at least 50% less than anywhere else.  It’s an awesome website.  You have to keep checking back because the designers change frequently.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

I was watching the Emmy’s when I saw a commercial from Macy’s about shoes.  Clinton Kelly stated, “Shoes are the most important accessory of any outfit”.    He tends to think that shoes set the tone of an outfit.  I guess he has a point – if you are wearing a beautiful gown, you really need beautiful shoes.  Wearing cowboy boats or sneakers – no matter how nice you think they are – will not look “right” with a gown.  This really got me thinking – especially since I have many shoe issues.  One of the most common fashion “statements” I see out there is the heavy, “Ugg” type boot with shorts.  When the cooler weather starts I also see a lot of jeans and flip flops.  Both of these are a complete “oxymoron”.  If the weather is hot enough for shorts why are you wearing boots that are supposed to be keeping your feet warm?  And again, if the weather is getting cool enough for jeans – what is the point of flip flops.  I don’t understand either of these looks.  What about you – do you wear either of these looks?  Do you like the fad or are you hoping that it is a phase that will end very soon??
