Michael Phelps has acknowledged that the photo showing him smoking marijuana from a bong is real.
He released this statement:
I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.
So far no word on what the advertisers that he represents thinks. Do you think they will “let the incident go”??
14-times Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps does not only swim like a fish but apparently smokes like a chimney. Michael, won a record eight gold medals for swimming at the Beijing games last summer, to become the greatest competitor in Olympic history.
According to News of the World, on November 6, weeks after his Beijing triumph, 23-year-old Phelps surprised students at the University Of South Carolina in Columbia by showing up unannounced at a house party.
He was visiting Jordan Matthews, a girl he was secretly seeing who was a student there.
A source revealed: “Michael came to visit Jordan but ended up just getting wasted every night.”
“Every girl wanted a piece of him and every guy wanted to be his best buddy. He couldn’t get enough of all the attention.”
Phelps’ aides went into a panic over the story and offered News of the world a raft of extraordinary incentives not to run the bong picture.
This photo could destroy his golden boy image and lucrative career.
But who needs fame and fortune when you have good friends that love to share their photos.
Do you think Michael should be judged for blowing off some steam (or smoke) after training endlessly to accomplish what no other person has ever been able to accomplish? That would be winning eight gold medals at one Olympic game, not holding a bong hit for 64 seconds.
